Daryl L. Fowler for DeWitt County Judge:
My journey to and through DeWitt County began in late 1982 when I happened to meet Lisa Matthew at my grandparents’ church in Fort Worth. Lisa was one of the daughters of Pete and Gay Matthew of Yoakum. She was completing her college education at Texas Women’s University at the time. Lucky for me, she was a homesick girl and we moved here within six months of our marriage in 1984 so that we could raise our children in the closely-knit rural community of Stratton.
Shortly thereafter, I began working for the Yoakum National Bank. In 1986, I opened an independent life insurance agency. In 1996, we began to raise our own cattle in the Stratton Community. Lisa has been a school teacher for the last 25 years and currently administers the deaf education program in Yoakum for Cuero ISD.
Over the years we have taken every opportunity to serve our professions, our neighbors, and our church when and where we have been called. Lisa currently serves the Yoakum Community as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. Last September I resigned my position as county chairman of the DeWitt Republican Party. It was an elected position I had held for the previous eight years. The service seemed to be a natural extension of my affinity for good government and the political process which has been evolving since my days in public high school during the 1970’s.
My decision to run for DeWitt County Judge is the next logical step in my quest to preserve and protect our American form of government and our way of life. I believe the skills I have acquired over the last 26 years living in DeWitt County and working throughout the region have well-prepared me to handle the multitude of tasks that face a rural county judge in our modern era.
