Paddy Burwell for DeWitt County Clerk:
Paddy is a rancher who lives near Westhoff. He attended Laredo Junior College on a football scholarship
and later, the University of Houston. A former Marine who fought in Korea, he was the Records Manager
with a major exploration company and has over 38 years experience in records management and
exploration. He was active in a professional records society, the Association of Records Managers and
Administrators, serving as international co-chairman of the Petroleum Committee in 1988. After retiring,
he worked as an Exploration Records Consultant for seven years. Burwell was appointed a Director
(public member) of the State Bar of Texas by the Texas Supreme Court at the request of then Governor
Bush in 1997. The Supreme Court later appointed him to two terms to the Commission for Lawyer
Discipline, a committee who administers discipline for the State Bar of Texas. He served as a member of
the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for over six years.
Community involvement includes serving his fourteenth year on the Westhoff ISD Board of Trustees,
charter member of the Cuero Education Foundation and director of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum.
He is a life member of the Westhoff American Legion, Cuero Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Former
Texas Rangers Association. Paddy served as DeWitt County Republican Chairman from 1995-2001.
In explaining his interest in serving as DeWitt County Clerk, Paddy said "my experience, good judgment
and maturity make me uniquely qualified for the office. I believe I can manage the office of DeWitt County
Clerk efficiently and effectively, giving the taxpayers of DeWitt County an elected official that will manage
the office, the records and elections with knowledge and expertise.
